About Us

Birds International Inc. ( BII ) is a 100% Filipino owned private breeding farm located strategically in Quezon City, Philippines. With full awareness of the need to protect and preserve Earth’s precious wildlife, we are engaged in the sustainable breeding of both endemic and exotic species of endangered parrots.

BII continuous to commit to saving the world’s endangered parrot species for over two decades by striving for these two objectives:

  1. To conserve and protect rare parrots by successfully breeding them in captivity.
  2. By doing so, through legal means, help prevent parrot poaching and smuggling.

Founded in 1973 by Mr. Antonio de Dios, we have consistently endeavored to achieve these objectives. Utilizing the latest advances in breeding technology and staffed with college-educated technicians, BII leads the proponent of the survival of many species of rare parrots.

We operate these facilities at the highest standard to ensure that all our parrots receive the best possible care. Fresh local fruits and vegetables, as well as food gathered from the world, are prepared daily for each parrot. Additional food supplements are imported from abroad to meet the exact nutritional requirements of all species. The principle of prevention through strict protocols and procedures are faithfully followed, from the daily cleaning of the cages to regular disinfection of the facilities.

BII serves the needs of serious aviculturists across the globe – from the North and South America, Europe and Asia. Prospective clients are carefully screened to ensure that these rare parrots are placed in safe, supportive environments that support goals of conservation and protection.

The wide range of other parrot species being successfully bred such as the Hyacinth Macaw, Golden Conure and the Blue and Gold Macaw Mutation to name a few, shall be continuously offered to satisfy the demand of the pet industry, breeders, zoos, collectors and other scientific institutions.

We at BII are uncompromisingly dedicated to the preservation of rare and exotic parrots which to many is a remarkable example of coexistence between man and bird.  We view our activities as critical to the protection and survival of these endangered species. As trustees of this diminishing natural legacy, we seek the best possible homes for our parrots. The health and well-being of these rare creatures are our primary concern. Working together with our clients, government agencies and other environmental institutions, we continue to improve the numbers and rate of survival of endangered parrots around the world.

MOST NOTABLE SPECIE – “ SPIX MACAW” BRED AT BII

One of the most notable species successfully bred at BII is the now extinct Spix’s macaw (Cyanopsitta Spixii). From 1982-1999 a total of thirty-nine (39) captive bred progenies were produced. On March 14, 1992 a female was transferred to Dr. Hammerli of Switzerland in exchange for a male. This female replaced his productive hen which died and this replacement female became productive as well. This was followed by a similar exchange of a female with a male on October 27, 1994.

The reintroduction of a female to pair with the Ione male in the wild was made possible by the transfer of a BII female to Mauritio de Silva on October 08, 1995 which replaced the female Mauritio donated to the Brazil government for the aforementioned reintroduction.

On October 25. 1996, two males were donated to the Sao Paulo Zoo, also in Brazil – the only range state of the Spix’s Macaw. One of the males transferred to Sao Paulo Zoo was transferred to Loro Parque in Spain and has proven productive. It has formed the nucleus of Loro Parque’s Spix’s production.

In 2005, the bird flu pandemic hit Asia and to protect this very important species, founder Mr. Antonio de Dios decided to look for a safer haven for the remaining stock of 24 heads and entered into an agreement with Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation in Qatar. The remaining stocks were transferred to Qatar and AWWP has successfully bred the parrots as well.
